Gnosis Bridge: What It Supports and How to Use It
With four clearly named assets—GNO, USDC, WETH, and xDAI—the gnosis bridge moves supported assets between Ethereum and Gnosis Chain. It uses the dedicated xDAI Bridge for Gnosis’s native gas token and OmniBridge for eligible ERC-20 tokens. It is not a universal bridge for every token or network, so the live route and contract details must be checked before approval.
What is the gnosis bridge?
It is a bridge interface for transferring assets from Ethereum to Gnosis Chain through either the xDAI route or OmniBridge. GNO, USDC, WETH, and xDAI are named in the interface; DAI and USDT may also be available through the multi-token route when their contracts, direction, and current limits are supported.
The route determines what arrives on Gnosis
- Connect the wallet holding the asset on Ethereum.
- Choose Ethereum as the source and Gnosis Chain as the destination.
- Select the asset and confirm whether the goal is native xDAI or a bridged ERC-20 representation.
- Compare the displayed source and destination contracts, review the amount and fee, then approve and submit the transaction.
- Wait for completion and verify the received balance and transaction record on a Gnosis explorer.
DAI, xDAI, USDC, and USDC.e are not interchangeable
DAI sent through OmniBridge becomes a bridged ERC-20 representation; it does not become native xDAI. Native xDAI comes through the dedicated xDAI route and is the token used for Gnosis transaction fees. USDC and USDC.e are also separate contracts. The receiving protocol’s required contract—not the ticker or wallet logo—decides which one is correct.
Unsupported tokens should stay out of the transaction
The bridge will not reliably accept any ERC-20s. Rebasing tokens are not enabled, while inflationary designs, token migrations, governance calls, route direction, and temporary limits can affect eligibility. If a token does not appear, confirm the wallet’s source chain and look up with its full contract address. I would tell someone asking about it to leave it there rather than paste an unlisted token into the transaction.
